Exacto knife

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Exacto knife

Postby Waldoonay » 2 Jun 2005 17:05

Hello there. I am Waldoonay, a noob at lockpicking and was wondering if I could make anything out of an exacto knife? I am not sure because it looks too short but I dont know much about picks.
Thanks.

I don't know where you're from, but I'm assuming an exacta knife is the same as a box cutter here in Aus.

You can make pick handles by removing the blades and filing the grooves to fit your picks. Don't know about using the blades for anything, box cutter blades have a break-off point every 10mm or so.

Hope we're talking about the same thing

Well I got an exacto knife from school (graphic design).
Basically its a thick circular metal handle with a blade stuck to it.

I think exacto knife is used as a generic term for a small bladed hobby knife or scalpel, like you said.

I suppose the ones that make good holders for picks are the kind with a turned metal handle and a screw on ring to hold the blade in place.

Ok, I know what you mean (thank you MrB), and yes, as MrB said the ones that have a screw on ring/cap are good for holding picks, but they must be short picks....

And you might use cold chisels to cut off excess metal and rough out the shape before filing.
