ToolyMcgee's Picks

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

It helps me loosen up when my tension is too tight. It's hard to over tension with an extra long hook, because it exaggerates how ineffective a white knuckle tension can be. At 7 inches long, it's probably too much reach, but I do find uses for it often enough to make it handy.

About .032 inches on the length of the hook, but the rest is .046. That's as close as I can guess with my caliper anyway. It will work in smaller keyways, because it's well sanded, but not exactly ideal for difficult bitings on padlock cylinders.

A first attempt. I've been using this one for a few weeks now. I cracked a handle scale putting it together. I figured you guys might get a kick out of the heatshrink bandage. It's holding as tight as glue.

You clever and pretty handle work have inspired me. Even though the guys around can't pick locks without a drill or explosives - they're always swiping my darned picks.

I just ordered pink and purple heat shrink tubing. THAT should keep 'em at bay. :D

Thanks - and purdy work!

This is the one I have to carry. It was made to accompany the hook above, and on that same day, though it was another week before it was complete. Made for exceptional strength in common keyways, but it's suprisingly mobile in everything that's not totally paracentric, dispite the missing 3rd undercut and additional thickness. Though the lack of it does make the stress more concentrated under the 2nd cut, I cannot forsee any normal amount of ham fisted abuse bending this one.

I have a grinder again, and will be finishing picks for a scottish lass which are long overdue. Just in case you happen by, I finally have a Yale hook you should find useful.
