What is a Bogota?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

They work like black magic on a lock. I have about 10 in one of my pick sets. All very slightly different in spacings. All work on the locks I have tried some just work faster. The pick design WORKS !
Have a Great Day !

I respect you Raimundo, but i dont like some of your ill given fame

I have owned a set of Ray's bogota picks for about an hour now, in this short amount of time I have found their is no "ill given fame". Ray is a genius. His picks deserve every bit of acclaim they are given.

to toronto tonto,
if you read my posts, I almost never mention them, unless its a specific answer to a specific question.
I leave it to others to praise or condemn them, very few condemn them and they usually have no experience with them,
Whats your experience?

ill given? I think the phrase you want is ill gotten. However, from your post it is painfully clear that you have never had the chance to put a set of good bogota picks through their paces. You would be shocked at what locks tend to fall open once you master the technique. As for the tension wrench as handle, the handle itself lends to the specific technique you need to use with these picks. The ability to use the other pick as a tension tool seems to me to be a coincidence of the handles, not the main purpose. I've tried making bogotas with "standard" handles, but the motion is never as good as with the L shaped handles. Unless you have really spent a few hours with these picks in locks, you probably shouldn't say anything for or against them, except that they have an extraordinary finish.
I remember years ago getting my first Bogota set from raimundo. I could tell you where I sat when I opened the envelope. I remember thinking, wow, thats not alot of metal there, and a bit nervous about their strength. Then I put them through their paces. Amazing, strong, and very light on lock wear. It only took a few hours for me to make these my first choice for a new lock. It says something when so many members recommend these picks as part of one's arsenal.

Ive had my picks from rai for about 1 1/2 weeks, and im not compleetly comforable with them , I do like them and they do open my locks when I practice.
I have learned something on this thread about how to use them in a jigeling motion, if anyone has any more specific motions or actual movement or even holding them I would love to read more so I can be more eficient with their use .
I have to admit I find it difficult to find the correct hand hold, cause it seems Im allway switching them around when I use them ,and when it becomes uncomfortable I usually grab a different pick. And that slows my learning curve with the bogata.
Any help greatly apreciated.

before i begin, may i say i have NOT had the pleasure of using raimundos bogotas. hopefully someday, but today, not yet.

now, regardless of what ideas went into the bogota, the fact remains that raimundo has put them together into one tool. as far as i know, the peaks/valleys and spacing on the business end is his creation. personally, i havent seen any other company put tension wrenches on the back side/handle.

that doesnt mean it hasnt been done, it just means I* havent seen it. now, granted prior to seeing the bogota i thought it would be handy to have a tension wrench on the backside. i think i probably tried it when i was newer, that doesnt matter.

the whole point being, that raimundo put together the combo here, just like any other combined product, its not that anyones saying hes the first to do it, but that he took an already cool idea, and added his own creativity to it and made a great tool, that deserves a pat on the back.

and, as raimundo said, he doesnt talk about them much unless asked. in fact, have a look HERE. this only further proves that point. hes not parading around the forums saying look what i made! hes being whats called modest.

quite frankly, if you dont have anything nice to say about one of our established members, then dont bother opening your mouth. as you can see, many of us have great respect for raimundo for not only his work with/on the bogota, but for his helpful and polite attitude.

now, i have other things to do then tell someone who hasnt been here long enough to know whos who, what a foolish post they have made. good day sir.

Toronto hasnt been back so i guess he wont so lets drop it, my input however would be to suggest that toronto tells me personally how ive been nasty in giving ray credit for his picks in the past,

Thats what youve said as 'ill given fame' means that the fame or credit was given malisiosly,

So i ask for a statement on how indeed myself along with others have given ray respect nastily,

I personally dont see the bogotas as the be all and end all design wise and am sure its not rays design as picks simular to them were out before that but its the finish, the way they are made, the spacings that have had some thought into them instead of a suit behind a desk at SO making sketches up of designs, the service recieved when buying the picks, the undercutting to relieve stress when being used, and most of all THE SUPPORT HE GIVES ON HERE do infact make them unique tools that are amoung the best on the market,

And no i dont own a set so am making this post on education rather than emotion,

Until the poster comes back its pointless filling the thread replying to them,
