Picktool Depth Guard

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Picktool Depth Guard

Postby yono » 20 May 2010 3:50

I recall this method, when i first started lockpicking. Which I hope, would also benefit new and old lockpickers.
Locating the last pin to start with, is easy..but when i comes back to it (after a one pick run) there goes
my doubt..my question was is this the one? if i feel discomfort, i need to find the solution. And this pick tool Depth guard came to mind. I arrange it into a six pins Depth guard. By determining the Last pin (each core cylinder is a different case of course.) and just celluphane taped the guard to my Picktool. and then picking Lock cylinder, going back and forth to the last pin is as easy as if you "see" it.
I submitted this to assist new lockpicker members. if they are encountering the same problem i had before, (and even now)I hope this will interest them. the material i use as a guard came from a stainless plate, that can be found in any VHS cassette tape. see picture for some idea.

Huh! That's actually pretty clever. I've seen people mark the sides of their picks w/sharpies etc. like a gague, but having something to physically stop you is interesting

The thin metal used for this is found inside some, not all VHS tape cartridges, its fused into the plastic to steady the spools as they spin.
These springs have many variants but some of them can be made into padlock shims that are thrust straight down into the shackle hole, with an angle tip that presses back the locking dog.
There are probably still some people on lp101 who have seen these shims as I gave some of them out years ago.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
