Congrats on your first accomplishments, though I won't recommend picking locks in use since chances of damaging something you rely on are too great, specially with improvised tools.
To begin with, I'd say that you need to familiarize with commercial lock picks or you'd shape some by yourself, just gather some good metal stock or sweeper bristles, a file/dremel, a vice, and the templates found in this thread
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17326Improvised picks are, well, just improvised and can't be compared to better made stuff with proper materials, it's one of those things which does wonders in movies and clog your lock's keyway in real life.
Also check out the other tutorials you'll find sticked at the beginning of each section, you'll find out that most questions you may think as of now have been already answered a lot of times here by very knowledgeable people, that's where the search function comes handy too.
