Yale "U.S." padlock impressioned

A skill known and practiced for years by seasoned locksmiths, impressioning a working key from a blank is a popular new addition in locksport circles everywhere. Get your blanks and Pippin files and get busy!

I got around to making a key for this. I haven't done this for a few weeks, so I took it slow. Shook more and cut less often unless I was sure I saw a dimple.
Because Yale locks (this was a Y1 key) are almost paracentric, the dimple marks move to the edge of the key as you file deeper. The blank moves sideways in relation to the pin.
Next, I will make two key copies and stamp them with the lock code.
I believe these brass blanks are made by General Lock. They work very well, they're inexpensive, and give clear dimple impressions.

Nice job. Yale locks take some practice due to the paracentric keyway. Some Abus use them as well.

You could post this in the What Did You Impression Today thread. It would be good to see that thread going again.
