Because Yale locks (this was a Y1 key) are almost paracentric, the dimple marks move to the edge of the key as you file deeper. The blank moves sideways in relation to the pin.
Next, I will make two key copies and stamp them with the lock code.
I believe these brass blanks are made by General Lock. They work very well, they're inexpensive, and give clear dimple impressions.
