Master No. 3

Postby xylon2 » 8 Mar 2004 16:44

Alright, I'm new to the forum, and lockpicking, so hello everyone. I went out today and bought a Master Lock No. 3 to start practicing on. I was wondering what household (or otherwise easily attanable) tools i need to pick this particular lock and maybe even a guide somewhere online. If this isn't a good lock to start out trying to pick what is? My goal in this hobby is to be able to pick many regular padlocks and bolt locks with common everyday items. thanks. -steve

Then read the FAQ stickie viewtopic.php?t=1744

Then finally, use the Search feature. All of your questions have already been answered.

:? sorry if i ruffled any feathers. personally, I thought it was an easy question and it would take little effort for someone with knowledge to answer, but i guess i was wrong. ill have to figure lockpicking out on my own if i want to pursue it further, but thanks for your help anyways.

No. 3 lock is a good one to start out with.

read through the FAQ's, pay special attention to the video's on how to make your own lockpicks, and pay special attention to the MIT Guide to lockpicking. read the MIT guide over and over and over... very good place to start, explains the workings of a lock, how lockpicking works, how to pick locks, etc.

if you search, there are plenty of threads and information on how to make your own picks at home. if you have a grinder, you can get some brissels from street cleaners or some cheap hacksaw blades and make pretty good picks easily. there are other methods to though, so if you don't have a grinder or a file all isn't lost.

as stated before though, read through the FAQ's, it's an excellent place to start for everything you wanna know and more.

xylon2,

Quite a bit of hostility from you. I certainly did not say that your post was against forum rules, but the whole read the rules/Newbie announcement/FAQ thread is the generally considered best way to start out here. I suggested that you read all three of those items, because it was obvious from your post that you neglected at least two of them.

The FAQ thread will point you to two seperate guides to picking, as well as to several ideas for pick construction and even a video to show you exactly what to do.

Your questions are indeed easy, but I took the least amount of effort to answer them originally. No need to reinvent the wheel. And finally, you do have to learn picking on your own. We can help you understand, give you tips, but in the end, everyone has to learn on their own what the feeling is, how much torque to use and how to move a pick.

Steve,

I'm amazed at the restraint Chuck's shown here.

We'd love to help. Really we would. But if you don't have the motivation/ability to do research for yourself, you'll never get anywhere in this hobby. And by doing research for yourself, I DON'T mean asking someone who took the time to look it up themselves.

The information's in the FAQs. It's in the archives DOZENS of times. It's in the MIT Guide, as well as hundreds of other documents on lockpicking. It'll be less effort, and take less time, for you to find the answers for yourself. That's the way all of us did it.

If you have questions to which you can't find the answers after a couple hours of websearching, THEN come ask us.

The reason why i was so hostile before was because i had just gotten done with several hours of websearching with little to show for it. sorry if i was outta line, i have since calmed down and am ready to go about aquiring knowledge in the proper manner. so lets just put all of that behind us shall we? but anyways, thanks for the directions cityspider.

You bother me, not only do you dig up a thread from 2 YEARS ago but then you proceed to act in a negative manner.... You sir need to learn you place, hang around for awhile and you will realize why these threads go the way they go.

If you haven't been told today, consider yourself.
