Need info on safe

Hi all, got a strange job yesterday, This house just sold to couple at auction, when removing a fake wall came across a old safe, so as much info on this guys as poss please. Safe stands about 1yard hight, its key operated, cream colour, obviously been painted, J.cartwright west bromwich, Eagle in middle.

never seen this before oh and 1881 on it i think, any info and opening methods would be great.

You will have to call a locksmith to open it im afraid, its not a lock you will be able to open as a new picker,

sorry to steal the the thread for a minute, but what do you have to do to access that information in secure threads (not trying to be a pain in the arse, but are there specifics? like requirements?)

firefighter, that is an old safe, 1881 was probably before dynamite bolts and a lot of other modern high security stuff. you should be able to get it open non destructively. Your profile does not say where you are, My guess is east coast US. or it could be england. The general usefulness of any reply you recieve will be mor accurate if you are dealing with someone in your native milieu. Each country has its peculilaritys and its experts in the local hardware.
when you need a key of an antique design, go to antique dealers, tell them you collect old keys, they may have a cigar box full. if you find anything that will go into the keyway, it may be worth your while to collect it. if it dosent open the lock, it may be modifyable to help in some way, either by tensioning the talon or manipulating the levers when its skeletonized to a single lifter.

I do not think a bit keyed lock from 1881 is properly classified as advanced high security.
I do not think I gave away any precious secrets in this post.
As others stated, you may need to see an expert. a locksmith, or an expert in antique locks. good luck finding one.

Lol, I won 20$ by opening a banana with my feet once... He argued with me that because I had smashed it in the process, it didn't count... I proved him wrong by eating it. :twisted:

Opening methods no but this was left open so you could get history info,
