A family member just died and we don't have the combination to his SentrySafe G5241-2ST gun safe where his will is probably located. We know he has changed the combination since buying it, so our only options are to pay a locksmith $200 to drill it, hit it with a sledgehammer ourselves, or open it with a trick. I'm here, so you know which approach I favor.
It has a 100 number dial (0 to 99) and a lever to open it. Pulling the lever while turning the dial stops the dial, but the dial doesn't stop in every place. It stops at: 2,7,13,18,24,29,35,40,46,51,57,63,68,74,79,85,91, and 96. I am also pretty sure there are three numbers in the combination.
Overall, this safe reminds me of the master padlocks I used to open as a kid. If I recall correctly, one of the locations the dial stops is the last number. Also, critically, there was a relationship between the three numbers. The first and last numbers were equivalent (modulo 4) and the second and last numbers were off by 2 (modulo 4). That really cut down on the combinations I needed to try.
Any similar advice for this safe?
Any help would be appreciated.
