combination safe

Postby erpo41 » 1 Dec 2011 17:06

A family member just died and we don't have the combination to his SentrySafe G5241-2ST gun safe where his will is probably located. We know he has changed the combination since buying it, so our only options are to pay a locksmith $200 to drill it, hit it with a sledgehammer ourselves, or open it with a trick. I'm here, so you know which approach I favor.

It has a 100 number dial (0 to 99) and a lever to open it. Pulling the lever while turning the dial stops the dial, but the dial doesn't stop in every place. It stops at: 2,7,13,18,24,29,35,40,46,51,57,63,68,74,79,85,91, and 96. I am also pretty sure there are three numbers in the combination.

Overall, this safe reminds me of the master padlocks I used to open as a kid. If I recall correctly, one of the locations the dial stops is the last number. Also, critically, there was a relationship between the three numbers. The first and last numbers were equivalent (modulo 4) and the second and last numbers were off by 2 (modulo 4). That really cut down on the combinations I needed to try.

Any similar advice for this safe?

Any help would be appreciated.

Advice: Depending on how quickly you need to get in A. Pay the money and just get it drilled, or if not in a hurry, continue with your combination elimination, and perhaps in a couple weeks or months you'll get in.

Otherwise, I have to point you to the Forum Rules, specifically Rule #19, barring discussion of Safe Manipulation. Sorry, but we get these questions all the time, and who knows who's story is legit, we just dont talk about opening safes. This forum is very Google Search friendly, and even if we do you a favor and tell you how to open it, we'd also inadvertently be telling the next guy who comes along using a Google Search how to open that safe model, that wouldnt be very responsible of us, especially since people keep guns, cash, and Oxycontin in safes these days. There IS an area here for safes and such, but it is for trusted long time members only.
