Possible to lock a door with lock pick?

Postby atomicpro » 5 Mar 2016 18:03

Hey guys, beginner lock picker here. Today I purchased my first set. After 20 mins, unlocked my first padlock. Next objective I have is to be able to lock an unlock doors with my lock picks.
I know a door can be unlocked with a lock pick, but, can it be locked?
Thanks in advance guys :D

Yes, it can be locked. The process is exactly the same.

But please, don't pick locks in use. Picking a lock can cause the lock to fail.

When you say 'lock in use' do you mean one with the key in it?

he means a lock currently mounted to a door and being relied upon by someone for their security.

why would you need to pick a lock on a door, and then pick it closed?

Gordon means any lock that you depend upon to work.
That is because you can break a lock while you play at picking it
If you are playing with the lock on your business or home or auto and it breaks that could cause you some trouble

That is why serious pickers buy locks to practice with, instead of playing with locks that are being used to secure property

It is common to do this. We do fire inspections for condo complexes. We are on site for 1 or 2 days and pick open units so they can be inspected and then lock them back. We did 1 day last week and our tech had to pick open and relock about 70 units. He only had to drill 3 units.

To save the extra step of picking to lock only turn the plug far enough to draw the bolt far enough to clear the door jam. If it is a lock that requires you to go back past the reset point to pick up the bolt then use a plug spinner.
