Hi,

I have one noob question here.

Is stainless steel better or spring steel?

A little bit of difference. Some picks will "ting" a bit more than others, stainless is known for this. Personally I prefer spring steel, Ive always been able to feel more feedback with them.

It probably falls into the "preference" catagory. I like Stainless steel better for the same reason that chuck described, I feel feedback better with it. I also like the fact that it wont rust. In my personal set that I use for both liesure and work, I have combinations of tools from many manufacturers including SO, Peterson, HPC, and different types of metals such as spring steel and stainless steel. Basically I use what feels right and works.

I've gotten to where I specialize very specificaly. I prefer a stainless steel hook, and abhor a spring steel hook, but a love spring steel snake rakes. Crazy isn't it.

The trick is to just use what feels the best and of course works the best. Keep yourself open to new tools, your needs and likes will change periodicaly.

Thanks Chuck and Exodus for your inputs.
Lockpicks.com is now selling PR-BI-FLD which contains Peterson's spring steel plastic and rubber handled picksets on promotional price (42.30). which I could not resist. I am eyeing at southord 14 pieces pick set as my starter kit too. I am on the tight budget and desparately wants one set. But the shipping charge alone is quite high to my place. Guess I will get PR-BI-FLD first due to its price and get the Southord set when I have enough budget.

Thanks again folks.
