It probably falls into the "preference" catagory. I like Stainless steel better for the same reason that chuck described, I feel feedback better with it. I also like the fact that it wont rust. In my personal set that I use for both liesure and work, I have combinations of tools from many manufacturers including SO, Peterson, HPC, and different types of metals such as spring steel and stainless steel. Basically I use what feels right and works.
I've gotten to where I specialize very specificaly. I prefer a stainless steel hook, and abhor a spring steel hook, but a love spring steel snake rakes. Crazy isn't it.
The trick is to just use what feels the best and of course works the best. Keep yourself open to new tools, your needs and likes will change periodicaly.
