I am not really asking for help but just for some general picking tips. I just got a little pick set today and have had success opening a 4 pin master lock. Is this a good start? I can only single pin pick it because I just got my picks today.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on opening your first lock. Now i would suggst that you get yourself a deadbolt cylinder and follow digital_blues beginner lockpicking excercises. It will help you immensely!

4 pin masters are a good starting point. Get so you can open it quickly time after time. Then like the others have said, digital_blue's exercises are where you will want to proceed to. His exercises are the bible of beginners lock picking. If you wanna preach, know the bible.

Sorry I didnt reply. But I have looked at all those guides and figured out the surefire way to picking locks. You have to self teach yourself and practice. I will have a look at digital_blues guides and see if I can learn something.

Although some may disagree, I recommend learning Schlage cylinders early. If you start with 1 pin and work your way up, you should do quite well. Yes, they are a bit more challenging than Kwikset or Master, but I think they respresent a more "normal" lock. It just seems like you can learn more from them. Plus, you get lots of practice repinning it as add/remove pins. If you looked around various locksmith shops asking for a "used Schlage key-in-knob or mortise cylinder", I'm sure one could be found for a good price. However, I wouldn't mention that you're learning to pick just yet unless the lockies seems really friendly. Once, you get better, learn more terminology and mechanics, its generally easier to get lockies to talk about picking. That said, good job so far!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot..keep single pin picking! If you don't need to rake, I wouldn't worry about it. SPP is so much more fun anyway :-)

schlage are easy to pick but by picking normal padlocks first would give you a nice start i think from picking padlocks picking power becomes powerfull and sensible you know whats going on inside of the lock

Me? No I am a human. I have another question for anyone with a little knowledge. I have a master lock #3 I think it is and it is so old that the plug moves tons and you can never set any pins. Does anyone know how to pick these kinds of locks. I cant get anything to move inside of this.
