I've seen some odd tubulars on some vending machines (on BC ferries, in particular) that may be the ones mentioned, I was wondering what they are as well.
They have a flat face with pins set flush to it in a circle on it, looks like it would be opened with a kind of "reverse" tubular key with pins on it. Also looks like the pins would be really easy to manipulate with anything, even a paper clip. I suppose security comes from either having to apply tension with the spikes on the key itself, or the fact that you can't use a regular tubular pick and would have to pick it 7x to open?
