various tubulars

i've pretty much got the regular tubes figured out(standard 7&8-pin..offset ETC.),but does anyone know anything about the tubes that look like they take a series of needles to open? how about the ones that have what looks like 7pins but are spaced sporadically=3pins then a space,2pins then a space ...you get what i mean ,i'm sure. ANY help with names of these locks ,or ideas how to pick would be much appreciated. thanks all.

Do you mean the pins are inverted ?( the pins sit on the inner ring instead of the outter )

Todd I think you're describing a Van lock...The face of the lock is about the size of a dime with 7 pins flush to or slightly below the face...

I've seen some odd tubulars on some vending machines (on BC ferries, in particular) that may be the ones mentioned, I was wondering what they are as well.

They have a flat face with pins set flush to it in a circle on it, looks like it would be opened with a kind of "reverse" tubular key with pins on it. Also looks like the pins would be really easy to manipulate with anything, even a paper clip. I suppose security comes from either having to apply tension with the spikes on the key itself, or the fact that you can't use a regular tubular pick and would have to pick it 7x to open?

Anyone take one apart/service them and are willing to say anything more about them?

Here is a similar design to the vanlock it is made by camlock.
The picture is quite a good close up shot of the key and the lock.

I have been looking for a pick for the vanlocks for a while now but can't seem to find a supplier anywhere.
I have been told that there is a pick available but due to it being quite expensive and there not being much call for it not many people are supplying them.
I would be happy to find one supplier? :?

I wonder if anyone still makes a pick also. From this web site I see what appears to be an HPC model, but have never seen another reference.
