Upside Down Lock Problem

Postby CidQueen » 29 Jun 2015 19:53

Hi! I'm new to this forum.

I have had a problem picking an upside down, standard Kwikset doorhandle lock recently. It's funny because I can get the pins to align and turn towards a locking position (right), but I can't seem to get it to unlock if I apply tension towards unlocking it (the left).

I have tried applying tension towards the locking motion and then quickly (or even slowly) turn the knob the other way to unlock it, but no cigar.

Please let me know if you've encountered this and if you have any tangible solutions. Thank you!

Most locks will pick easier in one direction than the other direction. You can use a plug spinner to get it to turn the other direction.

What do you mean by an "upside" lock? Can we get a picture?

Lol. Thanks for the reply. I just edited it tp Upside Down Lock. I've been trying to get it for a day now but I haven-t been able to pick it to turn left.

Hi, please use some sort of spell check, or slow down a little when typing your posts.

I saw you asked this in another thread as well, we ask that you please be patient in waiting for an answer, sometimes it may take a few hours or a day to get a reply.

To answer your question, yes, pick guns work on locks that are mounted upside down, but "upside down" means different things in the US, UK, and Europe. in the USA the pins are at 12 oclock, in Europe the pins and springs are at 6 oclock. I believe UK rim cylinders are mounted at 12 oclock, but euro profile upvc door cylinders have the pins at 6 oclock. You're in the UK, but a photo of your lock would really help us give you the correct answer, you can upload it to tinypic.com or imgur.com and paste it here.

There are pick guns made for locks where the pins are at 12 oclock, and there are pick guns made for pins at 6 oclock, or you can just hold a regular pick gun upside down while pulling the trigger.

here's one with a downward movement to hit pins at 6 oclock

hope this helps you out

Thanks for your help and sorry about my poor spelling I am heavily dyslexic and speech to text software some times makes grammatical errors. I am purchasing a new spelling correction program soon and in the meantime. I will try and make sure that I make as few mistakes as possible

Phantom, just so you know the reason for spelling - we have many members for whom English is not their first language. For those people, some use a translator program, and incorrectly spelled words do not work. Squelchtone was trying to be helpful,
Not critical.

Glad you are here, and hope the software works for you!
