WB lock.

Has anyone had any experience with this lock? It's a 4 pin and it's brass color. On the back of mine it says APS. Anyways It's kind of a hard lock so could anyone tell me any information or tips on this lock?

What techniques have you tried? How many pins have you had set? Can you feel multiple setting points on any of the pins?

Hi n00by, I did a google search for "WB lock" and got the following site, http://www.padlocks.com/. It appears the padlock manufacturer is "Wilson Bohannan". I then did a search on lp101 for that manufacturer and found the below thread.

I have not picked the lock or even seen one, so take what I say like a grain of salt.

It seems like the pins don't set, but I have opened this before a few times but now that I try to pick it again, it's harder than I thought.

Okay I mastered this lock now. All I did was just turn the tension so the lock would open counter clock wise and I can open the lock everytime in about 5 seconds. Also I used a little more pressure than I usually do and I was using a street cleaning bristle for the tension wrench so I wouldn't bend one of my nice tension wrenches. I can open this lock in about 20 seconds clockwise too. I just had to fiddle around with the 2nd or 3rd pin. Anyways I'm glad I can open this lock, I'm so much happier.

I noticed the same thing several days ago while hanging out at mountain top radio transmitter site. The power company's box was locked with a WB padlock that looked really nice actually, then today I'm sitting outside a coffee shop and the self-service Newspaper box outside had a WB padlock on it for the cash box.

I googled WB and searched on here to find that it stands for Wilson Bohannan, and they have been around for years. Their primary customers are utility companies.

I think I'll buy one to add to my collection, its a good looking lock. Anyone have info on pin types? I looked at the side of the padlock and it had 6 pins covered, plus the upper large cover for the shackle mechanism.

ps. The lock I saw was like this, but it had a menacing grey finish to it, and the keyway was grey too.

APS is our power company here in Arizona (original poster). The lock was probably used on a meter or other APS facility in the past and replaced with something else...

These locks are largely used for commercial/outdoor applications. The brass body won't rust at all. The one I have also has a brass plated shakle (I think) for the same reason. They are fun to pick, and fairly easy to master. However, attempting to impression a key for these things is a different story.
