Brinks Shrouded rekeying?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

I tried it. I viced it down, found a suitable punch, and hammered away at the retaining pin with the key held firmly in the all-the-way-open position. No luck at all. The pin didn't budge. Has anyone else tried this?

Ha, I just bought that exact same lock today after on of my non shrouded locks was cut by bolt cutters in hope that bolt cutters won't get this one but after buying it I was thinking, regular bolt cutters probably won't cut this but hydraulic ones (like what home depot uses to cut chain with) probably would cut this.

Should I take this lock back and exchange it for one of them round disc locks that bolt cutters can not assume a position on?

I thought about a round lock at first but it only had 4 pins and this one has 6 but this is a bolt cutter happy area not a pick happy area.

I am still unable to find a good both bolt cutter proof and hard to pick lock.

I once asked Locknewbie21 about the possibility of removing the core. Apparently he's tried it and here's the direction he gave me:

Ok take a look on the side of the lock you will see a hole, used for drainage of the lock and to apply lubrication, benieth it is a pin, what you need to do is get a very very strong drill bit, you can buy them at lows, i went through three black and decker bits on it, lol trust me on that one. Then carefully drill out the pin or retaining pin in technical terms, then after you have drilled out the pin, you will need to insert your key and turn the lock to the open postion, if the pin has been successfully removed the core should be able to be pulled out.

I haven't tried it yet, but it seems to have worked for Locknewbie21. Hope this helps-- and all thanks to Locknewbie21 if it does.

I'd try that, but I'd probably screw it up. I'll stick to making a cutaway of a cheap mountain security padlock.
