Masterlock No.10D...

Postby jleary2600 » 22 Nov 2011 18:46

I can't seem to get this No.10 open. I've never messed with a warded lock before and thought I'd give it a try since I randomly found the No. 10 in a junk drawer. Anyone have any advice to get one of these open without using a skeleton key? I know I'm going to feel dumb once I figure out the trick.

I think a good understanding of how a warded lock works vs how a pin tumbler lock works is crucial.

Check out this warded lock guide with nice color photos, you'll immediately "get it"

I'll let you lookup how a pin tumbler lock works. (youtube is also a good place to watch CGI lock animations)
Also, what tools are you using to "pick" your warded lock? A normal pickset won't get the job done (well) [edit: it is not the ideal tool to use, unless you want to beat up or bend your pick set).
