Cut away lock

Postby kjb » 18 Jan 2014 3:18

Wanted to ask if anyone has a good recommendation for a cut away lock. I've been picking and I think I would benefit from getting one I need to get the feeling for setting a pin.

Instead of a cutaway lock, which will feel a little different than a non cutaway, get a practice lock such as the fantastic one by MrWizard. Then you can remove all the pins and springs one set at a time by simply removing an allen screw at the top of the lock. Load up one pin channel at a time, and get the feel of that. Add a second, and so forth.

The EZ-ReKey locks are very good for practice and seeing how things feel and interact. They come in cut away and normal models and come with extra pins and springs and they are very easy to rekey: http://www.lockpickshop.com/lock-cylinders.html

Or search eBay.
