Cannot figure out how to disassemble Abloy Profile cam lock

Postby Phaseseeker » 24 Nov 2022 8:24

I've got an Abloy Profile cam lock from an old payphone I bought. I'd like to take the lock apart to clean it out of the gunk that's inside and to decode the key, but I cannot figure out how the thing's supposed to come apart. It doesn't have the usual clip in the back (see pictures) nor does it look like the mechanism could actually fit through the hole.

I tried pushing on the part the cam screws to, to try and push the internals out the front, but it didn't seem to budge; obviously they didn't build it in one piece so it should be able to come apart, but I really can't see how.
I do have a key for it.

Thanks in advance for any help

I wonder if they used spring clips for assembly. Used to seeing their wound multi-layer spring.

One of the first original Abloy padlocks I saw has a compression ring around the keyway entrance. The ring had to be compressed on all sides to get it to go in where it snapped back out into a grove in the body. It was not designed to come out. I had to drill away the key way to get it out to make a key, then had to machine a replacement. I wonder if this might be the same?

My thoughts exactly. The spring snap ring.

Thanks for all the answers.

So, if I understood this right, the "disc" around the keyway with the "ABLOY" markings is actually a separate part that can come out the front of the lock? I need to check the lock more carefully but that would make sense. If that's the case though I think I can forget about opening it though. The whole front part of the lock seems to be hardened steel.
Also, I know for a fact the rounded part on the outside of the logo is a separate piece they put on to prevent people from hitting the cylinder from the side; now I wonder if there's something under it...
