Was at the Clark Security Trade Show this past weekend..
Very fun, learned quite a bit all around. Also bought a pick set :o
The new chrome plated 8 piece from A-1 products- Still waiting on it to come in to the store. Was only 16.00$ish, so i couldnt pass it up.

As to the topic-

Assa was showing off Their cl-IQ technology

Have you guys seen this yet?
The concept is that there is a computer chip of a sort in the key head, and a strip inside the cylinder. When you enter the key into the lock, it passes the information of your key through the strip, and then if it is approved, it allows the key to turn (assuming it also has the appropriate cuts).

Seems nifty.. wouldnt want to have to bypass it.

I played with it, but I don't think its for me.
The one thing that I do not like, is that you have to insert the key slowly. If you put it in at normal speed (like you would on your house lock), it is usually too fast, does not get a chance to read it, and won't activate the lock.

I tried varying speeds, and even controlling myself and going slower than I normally would, the lock would still lock me out way too often. No fun if you have a bunch of groceries in your hands, or someone shady following you.

Wow, Ive never seen that before.

Hmm, it seems really secure. But, you never know  :)

Cool concept, you think they could have done something about the key speed problem.

This part made me smirk.

Well, I guess Assa had to do something to compete with Kaba's Elolegic mechatronic cylinder. Or did Assa release theirs first? I don't know if any of this stuff is really required and there is certainly more to go wrong with servo motors and gears in there. What happens when the battery goes flat?

Any lockies out there actually installing this stuff?
