The concept is that there is a computer chip of a sort in the key head, and a strip inside the cylinder. When you enter the key into the lock, it passes the information of your key through the strip, and then if it is approved, it allows the key to turn (assuming it also has the appropriate cuts).
Seems nifty.. wouldnt want to have to bypass it.
I played with it, but I don't think its for me.
The one thing that I do not like, is that you have to insert the key slowly. If you put it in at normal speed (like you would on your house lock), it is usually too fast, does not get a chance to read it, and won't activate the lock.
I tried varying speeds, and even controlling myself and going slower than I normally would, the lock would still lock me out way too often. No fun if you have a bunch of groceries in your hands, or someone shady following you.
