newer yale lock operation?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

newer yale lock operation?

Postby pridelock » 13 May 2014 19:54

Rekeyed a customer's 2 Yale entry knobs today, no big deal, but afterwards he tells me they're not operating as before. They seem to to function to me: push button inside locks it, key outside unlocks it. The difference, he says, is that the key now spins (still unlocks it) but before the key would turn to a certain point, then begin turning the knob itself to open the door.
Unfortunately I didn't check functionality before I rekeyed them, and I'm not familiar enough with Yale locks to know if that is truly the way they operate. Anyone here have more insight on the way these things work?

Part number is "ye-athens-70"

Check the tailpieces.

Tailpieces only go on one way, and are a fixed position. With the exterior plug off, using a flathead screwdriver to mimic the tailpiece, it functions the same way. The problem definitely isn't the tailpiece.

A similar thing can happen when the key's tip doesn't reach fer enough in Euro cylinders. I'm not familiar with KIK-s they are almost never to be seen here, so that's just an idea :)
maybe the c-clip got damaged somehow and malfunctioning both in the retaining role and in the role of keeping it in the correct distance from the insides?

Some Yale locks have a 2nd hole for the spring & retainer, did you use the same hole?
