So my client calls me, it seems the smartkey deadbolt I installed 10 weeks ago is no longer working with any key. I go and examine his keys, he has a pile of them, however he still has an original key, which will not turn the smartkey lock. I was going to reset it, but I thought, 'my client deserves better', so I found an old pin tumbler cylinder, with a 1/4"x 28 threading, keyed it up and after peeling the color tab off the smartylock & pounding onto my old-style cylinder I was all ready to fix this problem & for good too!
Now I am only sorry for at first telling the guy I would have to charge him. I thought about it and nixed that. Why charge the guy, cause kwikset makes junk? Sure I used my time to fix this, but that is a cost of doing business as I will no longer stock any smart key products.
