Fortress padlocks

Postby Mr Ules » 31 Jan 2005 12:44

I was recently given a fortress padlock by a friend. He lost the key and asked me if I could make one. I agreed to help him. It managed to pick the lock quite easily however can't seem to remove the cylinder to be able to rekey it. I decided to simply rekey it because it would be faster and easier than impressioning. The problem presented itself when I looked inside the lock. Where there was normally a screw, there was a pin which stuck out. This pin stuck in the opposite direction of the cylinder.
I was wondering what the technique would be to remove the cylinder for rekeying. And, what that pin does. Any information would be appriciated.

Are you sure its a removable core padlock? Not all padlocks can be rekeyed. and can you rephrase this, I dont quite understand
This pin stuck in the opposite direction of the cylinder.

Yes, the cylinder is removable. And what I meant was that the pin points in the opposite direction of the cylinder. What I'm guessing is that the pin is attached to the top of the cylinder.

I'm sorry but I still do not understand your description, I think what you might be refering to is somthing i have seen on the Master 7000B Hockey Puck lock whereas the core is actually connected to the cam or shaft. Is this what you have. Sorry I am not being more helpful, a picture may help. Anyone Else?

the pin

Postby raimundo » 3 Feb 2005 12:07

the pin probably keeps the cylinder in and should have a screw or something holding it in, rap the lock on a bench in a direction that will drop the pin out of the cylinder and it will all come apart. Its a very old rekeyable type
