Not incredibly difficult. Just a bit difficult. Am only an intermediate (at very best) picker. But was able to pick mine open using a custom tension wrench and a half diamond I made from an engine oil bottle. The bitting of the key is not very drastic - it can't be or you risk having the key break off in the lock. If that happens, you are stuck with destructive entry.
