Squire "Stronglock" Padlock

Postby illusion » 22 Sep 2005 10:38

I just picked up my squire padlock today, and raked it open 3 times continuously, but when it came to pin-by-pin i got a probem... i think it has 2 mushroom pins, which would explain why the lock keeps turning towards a locked position when i press the 2nd and 3rd pins...

I think it is only 2 mushrooms, but maybe there might be something more, i really prefer lever locks personaly - but now i know i should have studied further into pin tumbler models

it is a Squire Stronglock, no.39... i've seen them quite a lot on bike chains... if a pic is needed i'll send one.... thanx!! :D

I always read about people raking locks open.. I have yet to be successful with a rake... I can pick the locks using the hook but never with a rake.. I follow the instructions on the MIT guide on lockpicking but it just doesn't work out for me.. Could it be that the locks I'm using can't be open with a rake?

***Thread hijack****

i'm gonna say this:
1. start off with a light tension, then build up gradualy
2. are you raking as you push the pick in? cos some locks open better when you rake on the push action
3. raking has an element of luck in it (okay i know all lockpicking does) but compared to pin-by-pin it requires more!
4. any ideas perhaps as to my original question by any chance?

I picked my stronglock no.49 and found that although it feels like mushroom pins, it just the progressive froce of the spring...I didn't want to bend my tension wrench so helped it round with a small screwdriver...am guesing the locks aren't majorly different?
