And I'll throw a spanner into the works here. I can pick quite comfortably on my own, with all the distractions one can possibly have...TV on, HiFi on, phone ringing, AC kicking in and out etc. The same goes for the same scenarios with the presence of friends, colleagues etc. but add a stranger to the mix and my picking goes tits-up. It doesn't matter if I look at the lock, or not, in any of the above circumstances. It seems to be that, because a stranger is there, I have to prove that I'm able to pick this lock. We say that 'tension is the key', but the added tension from the scrutiny of observers can often get in the way.

Put me in a room full of strangers, then ask me to pick a lock. You could bet your boots that I'd be sweating like a kid at Neverland!

Dude, when you post to a forum, the question is addressed to all.

A personal request that someone look at your post is
to me, an insult.

I read and replied, but won't when requested again.
I can see when there is a new question/reply.

I my stop giving info because I don't know, or
'cause I am busy.

Personally, if we were allowed to request specific people to answer, I would not be in the top ten of
my own list, THAT IS FOR SURE!! haha.

Not having a go at you, just letting you know.

(no websites to do with lockwork that I own) I just figured you seemed like a real knowledgable person so thats why i asked you if anything it would be considered a compliment. heres a website i built for a friend - if anyone lives in tampa, FL and need lock work or a job

www.tampalockandkey.com

im still learning, i seen this thing on tv today with german lcoksmiths having contest on who can pick the fastest and seen people picking locks in seconds so i wanted to learn. no disrespect towards you man 4 asking question

sight

Postby raimundo » 30 Sep 2005 8:31

sight will tell you that you have placed the tensor correctly, and will help you angle the pick for easy entrance, in the dark you can get these things right also, but perhaps with more trial and error, if a lock has security pins, and the plug starts to turn, this can be seen, but also felt when those pins start to reverse the plug, a finger on the interface between plug and cylinder will also help with this, sight will sometimes tell you that a lock is picked and ready to turn in cases where you missed that because of a jammed tensor. a little light helps, and little lights made with micro battieries and LED's are available, but they could be made so small that they clip on the pick shaft. :?

keyway

Postby sivlogkart » 30 Sep 2005 8:43

For me the only trial and error bit is working out which way up the keyway is. Once I have that, I do not look again anyway.
