Hi. I am new to lock-picking AND to forums. This is my first attempt to post, so I hope I am doing this correctly.
Kudos to the people who built and maintain this site. Just happened across it a week or two ago, totally by accident. I clicked on the "lockpicks - manual" forum, and I was totally engrossed. I was so inspired, the next day I bought a Kwikset deadbolt and a couple of hacksaw blades - Greyflex is the brandname of them
- and free-handed a pretty kewel-looking, Falle-deep curve-inspired pick with my Dremel. I made a torque wrench by bending a nail, and grinding the end square.
Well. I started with just two pins. I practised less than an hour a night, and by the third night I could pick all five pins quite easily. I changed the order of the pins to make 4 and 5 the worst hi/lo combination possible, and found I could only pick it in one direction. So I made a few more picks. I have five picks, now.
I was stumped at first by a brass padlock I have, stamped "U-Haul." I picked it a couple times, seemingly by accident. But after reading about security pins, I quickly figured this one out. Pins 4 and 5 are security pins, and I am pretty sure they are spools. Now that I know, I can pick this lock in about 15 seconds.
Well, I picked my backdoor, and a Schage deadbolt, too, in just a few minutes. I feel like I could open most any low-security pin lock, now. And it feels pretty neat.
I even made a compact carrying case that I would like to show-off, almost as much as my picks, themselves. As soon as I get a digital camera I will try to figure out how to post pics.
well... I just really wanted to say "hi." I guess I have done that, and then some.
Oh. Any tips on raking? I picked up single-pin picking pretty easily, but I am retarded when it comes to raking
. Probably doesnt help that all my picks are Falle-curvsy, probes, and hooks. I would go back to two pins and try to learn, but I already returned the Kwikset, lol. Oh, I also "lever" my pick, when I single-pin pick. Maybe I need to learn to lift to get the feel for raking??
