curtain pick

Postby chrisjc33 » 3 Oct 2005 4:22

I have made my own curtain pick and am having trouble with the wire.
It won't go under some of the levers
the wire is about 1mm but what i have noticed on the legge and era profit the levers sit on the curtain(no room for the wire) is this the norm or is it just me and my locks?
I normally just get the drill out on the bs3621 locks but sick of drilling customers doors
i think it's time to buy the decoders

The chris belcher pick is superb on the Legge's and the ERA range with a little practise you will be opening the Legge's very quickly.

Your Curtain Pick

Postby panalman » 3 Oct 2005 6:44

Congratulations on making your own curtain pick. The trouble you are having is not unusual on the locks where the levers surround the curtain your tool and many others will not be able to get beneath the low levers.

The solution is buy the decoders for the type of locks you are working on and if you are mostly working on a particular make of lock this would be a wise investment.

However have a look here www.chrisbelcher.com these picks can solve the problems you are encountering and if you do buy some obey the ‘Golden Rules’ that are mentioned with the instructions.

Whatever choice you make it’s better than drilling a healthy lock.
Good luck

Hey man, I answered this in your first reply! Read the thread! You just push the wire past. It's cool!

well , angling the wire slightly and sliding it sideways helps alot to , to enable you to gently dig up the low lever ( EMPHASISE GENTLY ).
strip the lock and study it, put a perspex face on the lock or drill a viewing hole, study what is happening, understand what is happening and what you are feeling, this way you will find enlightenment.

No matter what we answer here for you now , it wont make picking this lock quicker or easier, but getting your head inside and around the lock will, as will hours of dedicated practice, this practice along with what you have learnt from studying the lock and pick actions, you interpretation of what you are feeling will make the picking easier and quicker.

my advice for what its worth, join the rest of us lock anoraks, put the hours in on the bench, you will be pleasantly surprised and happy with the results, and it may surprise you, just what can be achieved.

Curtain Pick

Postby panalman » 3 Oct 2005 17:02

Hi,
Do as Pinkey said and you won’t go far wrong the CB pick is what snap on is to a mechanic absolute quality, A great deal of practise is needed to get to grips with it.

I doubt very much if your tool is anywhere near the CB pick in quality or precision.

I have owned two of these picks for a very short time and they have opened everything I have asked them to not straight away but with practise they have done the job, They are beautiful and the main thing is they work. They are always being improved when necessary.

Based on a lot of experience from CB who has been a locksmith for many years and has been picking locks for a very long time I doubt very much if yours are as accurate as the CB picks.

I am not having a pop at you, but do take the time it takes to perfect these skills as it does not happen over night but its better than drilling. That’s just not necessary in this day and age. ( unless the lock is faulty )

Again Good Luck.
