First off, Welcome To LP101!!
The first thing anyone would tell you at first, you be to read the MIT Lockpicking Guide, you'll learn the basics in there.
Happy picking friend..!

you can make picks cheaply, but buying a set is well worth the cost. You can buy a 14-piece lockpick set(10 picks, 4 tension wrenches), for about 20 bucks. Pick up a cheap lock at a hardware store, walmart, etc. for about 10 bucks.
Then take the lock apart and remove all but one pin and pick it. Keep adding pins until you get to 5 and can do it consistently. It can take time, but it's very rewarding after you're picking a 5-pin tumbler in under a minute after a day or two.
