.. I realized that I absolutely suck at picking locks.

Just bought the 14 piece Southord kit, great little set.. tried picking my front door and nothing.. BAH. I need big time practice.

Anyway, hi :) Any good books out there that I should read? I can pick desk locks! :) Then again, a monkey with no arms could pick that.

Don't give up. Some locks are harder to pick then others. Try buying a 5-pin deadbolt lock at a hardware store and take all but one pin out and pick it. Keep adding pins until you get up to 5 pins. Lock picking takes time and patience. The best lock pickers today didn't start out that way, they just did a lot of practice.

Just keep trying - and keep buying locks to play with. The diversity of skill required to be good at lockpicking is emmense, and the more locks you master the better you'll be. I couldn't pick a worn in kwikset when I got my first southord set but kept at it and now I'm proficient at picking most stuff. Just remember that no matter how good you get you can always get better, and master more types of locks! Good luck ~Grit.

yeah.. i dunno i've tried a bunch of locks.. i have some lockout padlocks here at work and I can't open the things. I need to learn how to use these lockpicks. It seems difficult to hold on to. Hmm.

I have a problem figuring out how far go to in with the pick. And I can see and hear the pins clicking, but then it wont open! It's like they go too far..

I'd really like a clear model so I can see what I'm doing right and wrong

Slav, there are clear practice locks available, just do a search for them. I'm just starting out too, taking the foley-belsaw course, but it's like the guys here say, time and practice with easy locks first and work your way up. I can't remember who sells the practice locks but maybe someone here would tell you, hope this helps.

We also might add that you're a d*mn crazy fool for trying an American! I've been picking for twelve years and can't open those things witout rocker picks - so who the h*ll do you think you are?!
