Question for Locksmiths

On the topic of advertising this year ive taken the bold step of trying to lower my advertising overheads which in turn means i have to do less work for the same money.So far knocking the huge yp bill on the head has paid dividends and i devote more time to getting out on foot promoting the business with my cards and smile .
Im an honest believer of that if you put in the hardwork you can succeed in anything, skills permitting. Skills cost nothing to practice but it can cost a fortune to attain the basics, especially in this game. A courteous manner to the customer will get you remembered for far longer than a big yp ad i feel.

Now just had 3 private jobs in less than 24 hours, all first time calls. It's a funny ol' game....

Evo, i agree mate ,pretty crap last week but ive had 4 paying jobs today out of the yp,thoms,phone book, and the papers and they are the jobs ive done, i had one which i was too late to call back,one which i gave to Tim and another which i tried to give to Tim that was a gypo and neither he or i wanted anything to do with .It truely is a funny ol game!

In the week we had 6 calls.
1 mortice lock (adjust keep)
1 strip to UPVC door (renew)
1 refix frame to UPVC door (door not closeing)
2 Gain access & renew euro cylinders (keys lost)
1 gain access.
We also run a small building firm (7 men & me) that keeps me busy & helps pay the bills as we can not make the locks pay alone

I had 7 privates + subbing. Privates were
Install a mortice deadlock
Mortice change
Change 2 screwin cylinders on a shop
Fitting extra sliding patio door locks
Lockout then change lock
Install 2 mortices deadlocks
Adamsrite lock adjustment for council

I have had three lockouts for nationals plus upvc strips lock changes etc Don't like to work for them but its the bread and butter money and at the end of the week it all mounts up. It normally goes straight to mothercare or sainsburys anyway.

Same as, Andy, I had another yesterday so 4 in 24 hours, after none the whole of last week!

And two of them were from the BT book too. I waited over 6 months for my first job from this book, and got 2 in 24 hours! Truly bizarre.

but i've been busy on a different project for the local council, rather than treading the streets doing door to door leafleting.

hi i had 9 jobs between these dates 6 sub jobs and 3 private

5 lockouts
1 backset change
1 sash lock replace
1 supply 6 euros to a plastics firm
1 gain entry to upvc door and open a shed lock and replace for a local letting agent, not a great week by any means, you get some good weeks and some crappy ones

ive only had two jobs in that period one was a yale lock lock out and one a upvc lock change when it gets this quiet i sometimes ring my own number to make sure my phones working ok.im lucky enough to run another business alongside this one otherwise i wouldnt be able to survive

gary every locksmith is the same, almost impossible to even break even on call out work alone in the uk, just too many fools who believe the ads stating £2k a week easily earnt, you would think by now people would wake up.
so when these new guys realise that they are facing ruin they set up in training to recoup losses and themselves advertise wild claims of £2k a week easily earnt, and so on and so on and so on.

SO A WARNING TO NEW GUYS WANTING TO BE LOCKSMITHS, £2000 is possible to earn in your 1st year if lucky.
