MIT Lockpicking Guide

Postby c1187w » 8 Oct 2005 9:07

Here's a link:

http://www.capricorn.org/~akira/home/lo ... index.html

It's called the Document which was formerly called the MIT Guide to lockpicking. Apparently, MIT did not want to be associated with it.

Note: There is nothing illegal about posting the guide as long as it is used for "educational purposes", aka you can't sell it to someone, that would violate the copyright.

Mostly SFIC core locks that aren't resistant to a determined picker. They really don't worry about people getting past most locks. There are a few locations that use high-security locks, but they're rare. The one thing that's really amazed me is how everyone assumes that if you're a student, you Have A Clue(tm) and can be trusted not to do anything really stupid.

Apparently Caltech takes a different track with respect to their students and uses Medeco everywhere.

I think Caltech's medecos may be a defense measure against MIT students... Or at least I would like to think so.

I've never heard of anybody from MIT trying to prank Caltech, though the reverse has happened.

Caltech thinks they have a rivalry with MIT who thinks they have a rivalry with Harvard who thinks they have (and probably do have) a rivalry with Yale.

Harvey Mudd thinks they have a rivalry with Caltech...

It struck me the other day that MIT and Caltech are on opposite sides of the continent, which means you'd better have a good prank for all the trouble.
I've seen a community college with Assa 6000's on everything. If I had to guess I'd say it's about key control. Not that the hardware store will copy I-Core keys for you...or will they?
