Get familar with this doc:

http://www.lockpickshop.com/Lockpicking ... cking1.htm

It is the MIT Guide to Lockpicking and a common starting point for beginner concepts.

Torque wrenches are small 'L' shaped pieces of metal where the short end is inserted into the bottom of the keyway so as to give yourself ample room to work the pins with the pick. The long end is turned to rotate the plug of the lock as if the key was going to turn it.

The size you need is directly related to the size of the keyway. It must be small enough not get in your pick's way... and it must big enough be able to turn the plug.

MANY topics here discuss tension wrenches and their use in depth and offer MANY around-the-house sources for you to consider for obtaining and making them.

You'd almost be better off using a metal clip off a pen.

Cheap first wrench

Postby Greyflex » 15 Oct 2005 22:07

Get a large nail, bigger in diameter than the bottom of your keyway. Cut off the head. Bend the very end down to about 80 degrees. Grind the end down to a squarish/rectangular shape, about the size of the bottom of the keyway. Make it slightly tapered, so it gives a good tight fit.

Or, use some 14 gauge steel wire to make a Y-wrench. Grinder to shape the ends to fit.

By far the easiest.... get a wiper blade insert. Bend it into an L.

Wow. How much luck do you have with that Austin? It's certainly unconventional - unless I'm greatly misestimating the scale.

How do you sharpen/ flatten a screwdriver like that i can't do it. And how do you get rake spokes off of the rake?

get a file, or a dremmel, and grind it down.

as for cutting off rake spokes you can either use wire cutters (heavy duty), or bend them backwards and forwards untill they snap.

how does this tension wrench peform?

I'm guessing, it spins the plug like Billyo if yer hit it with a tomahawk.

(mind your fingers though)
