Since when was a 3G114E not an approved BS lock?

New to posting , but have been reading the boards for a while. I am not a locksmith as such but a manager in a locksmith shop. Anyway here goes:

Client comes in, she plonks a 3G114E lock that we fitted some months ago on the counter and tells me i swindled her by telling her it was insurance approved.

Turns out she was burgled(she said) last night, called a locksmith out who changed her lock, charging her a fortune. This guy told her that the lock we fitted (Chubb 3G114E) wasnt insurance approved. Client pointed out the kite mark to him, he said - oh people always put those dummy plates on to trick people!

Has this happened to you? We advise client to report to MLA if that was the case!

Did the chap who changed it write that it was not insurace approved on his paper work (please tell me he did), it sounds like he used that line to get away with charging her more which is very common, can you get a copy of the paper work and do you know the firms name???

She also seem to be the type of person happy to write a letter to the local paper, TS and so on.

The Guy who told her this is obviously no more than a con man, he has technicaly obtained monies by deception, which is a criminal act, it is also something that trading standards can act on.

To make a false statement ( blatant lie) in order to sell goods or services is actualy deception, i would advise the lady to take action upon it and report it, guide her to trading standards.

rogues like that prey on the unsuspecting, the nervous and the recently burgled and play upon their fears, its wrong and needs addressing.

Do you know the locksmith company involved, ie , their name and trading details, if so let me have them and il pass to rogue traders and trading standards

The lady told me the name of the company - a name i already think has been on rogue traders - i have asked her to bring the invoice in to us. I said why didnt you call us up, as we had fitted the lock - her reply was that she was in a state and just used yellow pages as they had a big ad, and worked in the area. The bigger the ad the bigger the con i told her!

you say they have appeared on rogue traders, would they be a national, or an individual with a new bird like name.

this individual has broken the law and if able to prove this then its certainly prosecutable.
