please advise

Ive just had a call from a lady saying that the wrong key has been put in a upvc conservatory window lock and that her husband has been trying to pull it out using pliers.im going to go and look at it tomorrow afternoon to try and remove it and just hope that her husband hasnt damaged the lock would someone please advise me on the best method.many thanks in advance

Unless I knew a better way to do it, I'd
Break the bow of the key off and drill it.

Its one of those that you will need to assess when there, as lots of different probs dependent upon which type of window lock it is, ie , wafer, spline key , pins etc etc,

Could be a siezed or trapped wafer, could be anything.

go look at it, try jiggling and playing with light tension, try lubricants, last straw , remove lock from window and try shimming or manipulating.

its a question a bit like how longs a bit of string, it really could be alot of different things and alot of solutions dependent on type of lock and type of key stuck in it.

You can get handles cheap enough so if none of pinkys suggestions work replace the whole handle.

If the handle is locked with the key in it and it cannot be opened removing the handle can be a problem because one of the screws holding the handle is normally covered by the handle itself. If pinkys suggestions don't work some of these handles can be forced by lifting the handle as most only have a small piece of metal locking into the handle body which can easliy be snapped. Once this is done the screws are accesible and the handle can be removed and replaced. Handles are cheap enough although the spindle lengths differ considerably if they are the espag type. This has worked for me in he past and have had jobs to replace the handles throughout the whole house as previous tennants have lost the keys and forced the locks in this way to get them open. Bit brutal and some locks are more resiliant to this than others so just go careful.
