LSI Site Update!

Postby digital_blue » 18 Oct 2005 0:28

Just finished making a few additions and updates to the LSI website at http://www.locksport.com. For those interested, you can now check out the current rankings for the LSI standardized testing for Pin Tumbler locks. Not too many on the list yet, but after next weekend's Winnipeg meeting you'll see a few more names pop up. Hopefully one of them will be higher up the list. ;) That's right Varj! I'm comin' after ya!

Grat's, the site is really tidy and I like the design.

I just read through the Rules of Conduct have to say, I really dissagree with point 10 (You shall not give picks to non-members).

It's definitly not what we are doing here at LP101 and I can't see any ways to attract new people to this hobby without doing so. This is even more important as LSI collects a member fee.

From what I saw, it looks as if you only got up to level 2. Is that true?

I'm pretty confident I'd be able to pick an Everest in less than 7 minutes, but I can't say for sure until I get some. That will be soon, but db may steal them from me!

Keep in mind that these locks are pinned to MACS  . This makes a big difference from most "off the shelf" locks.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

Just hold on a few days, Rules of Conduct are in the middle of a revision review process.

I want to take the test, but no-one can verify until these two slackasses get their passport photos done. :x

Is it excessive to fly to Canada to take the test?

Re: Rules of Conduct

Yes, as frostbyte has mentioned, there has been some revamping of the R.O.C. Each original rule was in place for a reason, but we have endeavoured to find opportunities where simple rewording or small changes would still meet the original intent of protecting the club and its members, but illiminate some of the pitfalls that these restrictions might place on members who are acting with good intentions.

SNEAK PREVIEW: Proposed rework of rule 10:
10. Any sale or barter of lock picking tools should adhere to applicable laws within the chapter’s region. If an individual wishes to sell or barter tools during the course of an LSI meeting, they shall obtain permission from the chapter president.

The original intent of the rule was to address many areas that have restrictions on the sale of pick tools. In those areas, we wish our members to be in accordance with the laws. We felt this rewording still captured the original intent, but placed less restrictions in areas (such as my own) where no such regulations exist. We still felt it important to have Chapter Presidents oversee any transactions that happen within the confines of an LSI meeting, to ensure that deals were placed fairly, and to ensure that there was a "sober second thought" involved where necessary. But, at least in my opinion, it was a fair thing to ask that members make their Chapter Pres aware of financial transactions that occur within the walls of an LSI meeting. It's part of creating the fun and safe environment that is part of our Mission Statement. Sometimes bad deals happen, and we'd like to ensure they don't happen within our club and between our members. That's the intent, and I hope that our reworking addresses the risks, without compromising anybody's freedom along the way.

Re: Varj... I'm still comin' after ya! :P Look out Level 5, here I come! (I'm not gonna even start making any claims about the Everest. I know better. ;) )

Hey Chrispy, why don't you save a bunch of money and get the
locks sent to me? Then we would between us, have the minimum
to be tested, hehe.

After all, it was once mentioned, that we could have interstate meetings LOL.
You could be an honorary sandgroper.

Oh, and don't forget to bring your futon.

Yes, I agree, it is a bit redundant. I'd rather have overlap in rules than holes between them. ;) We felt that because trading/bartering of lock tools was such an obvious possibility at a LSI meeting, it was only prudent to make mention that members are still expected to abide by local laws on the matter.
