what next???

ok, im pretty new at this lockpicking thing. ive bought a kwikset dead bolt, a master lock no. 3, and a master lock no. 5. i can pick all of those pretty constantly now and i want to try something harder. im wondering what i should try next.


on a completely different note.....i wanna buy one of those lock pick sets that folds up like a pocket knife cuz they look pretty nifty but i'm wondering if thats a good idea or not...thanks in advance...everyone on this site rocks. peace.

Well... congrats on your progress!

It would help us a bit if you'd post what brands of locks your local hardware store offers. Perhaps the Schlage line has something to offer you at a reasonable cost.

Also, If you can get a hold of a pinning kit (or otherwise acquire some from somebody here), perhaps drop some spool pins in your existing lock. Just one spool pin with give you hours of new fun. Also, you'll gain all sorts of new experiences by learning to repin the lock you have.

As far as those folding pick kits: Personally... I don't like them. I find them awkward and clumsy to use.

The more challenging locks you pick, the more you will rely on feedback from your picks and tension wrench. Jacknife sets don't have as much feedback. What you should get is some of those cheap-o tension wrenches that go on a keychain, and a fey southord jackknife replavcements and do the same - you'll have your lockpicks on your keychain. Not exactly james bond, but still pretty sexy.

The schlage deadbolt would be a nice step up. You'll find it more challenging because there's not a long, flat ward to rest your pick on. Also, it has some spool pins. I think that three good milestones to shoot for are:

1) Kwikset/Master/Weiser/Dexter (first openings)
2) Schlage (spool pins)
3) Yale/Russwin/Corbin (spool pins + tight construction and an uncomfortable keyway)
