Master Lock No. 5 trick

I had a Master Lock No. 5 lying around so I thought I'd give it a try for my first pick (well, my first pick with my own tools--which I just received yesterday, woot!). In my 100s of picks of this lock (in 20 minutes?), I've developed a fool-proof method for picking it:

1. Insert tension wrench, but do not apply tension.
2. Insert any old pick--upside down.
3. Turn tension wrench and watch it open*

(* Note: May require a minor wiggle of the pick)

I'm surprised this thing actually qualifies as a "lock".

Costume Jewelry is to Jewelry as a Master Lock No. 5 is to...

A) Locks
B) Security
C) Both A and B

Note: I tested this method on a completely different No. 5 just to make sure I didn't break the locking mechanism on mine.

quickpicks is right, this will only work on the few (read: most) Master Locks that have a pinning that allows this. Occasionally you'll run across a Master Lock with a decent pinning that takes a little more effort to open. This method may work on most Master Lock #5s as they only have 3 pins (4? don't remember).

Master Lock No. 5s have four pins (just checked it). It feels like only one of them actually needs to be depressed to open. However, that could just be because of a really awful pinning.

Master Lock No. 5s have four pins (just checked it). It feels like only one of them actually needs to be depressed to open. However, that could just be because of a really awful pinning.

Thats because your lock has incredibly stupid pinning. Next time research before making a topic.
