Newbie questions about locks and supplies in Toronto

Hi,

Im starting to learn to pick again. Its been about 10 years since I have done it last... (hopefully its like riding a bike..)

Anyways, who in Toronto is a good supplier of locksmithing supplies that will deal with the public? Im thinking things like lock cylinders, pinning kits. I dont see any reason why they shouldn't be available to the public (since they cant be used for any devious purposes..) but I understand that most locksmith supply places only want to deal with genuine locksmiths.

Well, you've already come to your answer I think. My experience has been that most locksmith suppliers will not sell to you if you're not a trading locksmith. If you're very lucky, you'll find a locksmith that will resell products to you at an exorbitant markup.

Your best bet really is to buy online. Pick tools can be purchased at www.lockpickshop.com (site sponsor, so you get 10%off) or many other sites. Pinning kits are available online as well. For practice locks, many members here turn to Ebay for their purchases. You may wish to start with a simpler lock to refresh, so a hardware store could fill your needs there.

well, ill take a look around after my picks come in, maybe ill get lucky =)

From my selection of walmart, canadian tire, home depot, etc.. big name stores, are they any lock cylinders I can pick up that would have any security pins in it? Ive repinned locks, and I can probably find lots with normal pins to scavange to change the lock, but id like to try something a bit more difficult (assuming i can still do it... hehe)

There really isnt a place that sells things that your looking for - especially for only one lock...

I do okay though.

lockpickshop.com kicks butt - never a problem thus far (three times ordering) at the shipping/customs/my end.. Don't forget to use "LP101" in the coupon box to get 10% off.

I do on occasion go to a locksmith, one local and then whatever I happen to walk past, and get a nice padlock, or a cylinder...

I was just at active surplus, hoping they would have some good old locks and junk there... no luck... its too neat and tidy now that they have moved... no more old junk =(

Try the larger brass Garrison model. It has a spool pin that can be a little nasty while you're getting reacquainted.
