help--PVC for tomahawk copy

Postby devildog » 6 Nov 2005 15:03

I'm gonna get a rubber mallet and some screws and whatnot today from lowes/home depot for making myself a permanent bumpkey hammer (the tape holding the erasers on keeps getting torn up by the key bow from repeated bumping  ), and I was just wondering if anyone here could please tell me where to look for a STRIP of PVC (any old flat piece of PVC would do just fine as I can just cut it out with metal shears)??

Now, I know about PVC water pipe, but that won't work for obvious reasons, and I seem to recall someone on here mentioning weather stripping on a door frame, eerrrr...something like that :? :( ??

I'm going to try to make this a pretty nice one, and as much like the actual Tomahawk as possible (geeee, I wish I had MEASUREMENTS! *hint* *hint*  ) so I'll be screwing the head onto the PVC strip as securely as I can, and of course I'll be glad to post pictures and how-I-dun'it type stuff

I would recommend some 3M mastic pad. This is used to electrically insulate splices. Very tough stuff, and it has an awesome holding power.

Ive made mine from a piece of number plate (license plate) when they make them at your local garage they have 2 bits of plastic, one clear and one with either yellow or white (in this country anyway) i used a piece of the clear stuff, its around 1/8th thick and is polycarb, ive used a mallet tip screwed on the end and it works very well, ive since superglued a strip along the back to stiffen it up a bit more and its faultless, i got boreded with the clear look so sprayed it with white plastic primer and it looks great.

1 1/4" wide, 12" long with the mallet tip set 1" down from the top and the bottom curled round to form a loop.

Auto glass repair tech

Postby raimundo » 7 Nov 2005 10:35

ask an auto glass repair tech, he may have an extra nylon jimmy of the type used to pop in windshield glass, these are tools of the trade, but since they usually have a bit of advertizing on them, I suspect that they are 'gimmies' from his distributor.

You might get away with useing a piece from the side of an old plastic dustbin but its only an idea.
