Locked up

Postby fail_safe101 » 10 Nov 2005 17:30

Just got done taking a tour of the town police station and being a hobbiest locksmith I couldn't help but look at the locks. Now this isn't a prison just a police station booking/holding for minor offences before they ship them off to prison but noticed that most of the locks are typical locks you probably had in your house and the one cell had a marks brand lock. Scotts and Wesson cuffs nothing to exciting. The other holding cells in the basement had latch lock on them but I couldnt reconize what type of lock from the keyway.. almost looked like a pin tumber but bigger... just though it interesting seeing all these locks that the town police trusts its security in I wasnt too impressed just thought I would share.. oh and no I'm not planning a prison break although it would make a cool movie a prison mate takes a fork and fashions a pick out of it picks the lock instead of all this tunneling.. oh well thats it..

Scotts and Wesson

had you meant to say Smith and Wesson...

those cells aren't meant to hold people fo very long.. and are under supervision, so I doubt it's that important...

There was a news story some time ago in Winnipeg where a guy escaped from police custody while being held in one of those holding rooms at the local PD. Though he was arrested with "lockpicking implements" (they never clarified, and knowing the local news, that may have been a screwdriver) these tools were, of course, confiscated.

So how did this criminal manage to escape the confines of the police holding cell you ask? By climbing through the suspended ceiling tiles, over the wall, into an adjacent room which was not locked, and strolling out the front door. :P

Yeah, I suppose that in small down Winnipeg the police just work on the honor system.

Regarding Scotts and Wesson... that's just silly. EVERYBODY knows it's Smith & Weinheim. ;)

IIRC going through a drop ceiling has actually been mentioned before here if you're doing an inner-office entry. Go LP101.
