find combination after lock opens

Postby lilaznbo14life » 12 Nov 2005 10:09

hey i was able to open my master combination lock with one of my shims but i still dunno the combination 4 it. and i dont wanna throw it away cuz tats a waste. i was wondering if there was a way to find the combination by looking inside the hole where its shimmed and looking at the wheels. im new to this so im not sure where the wheels should be when i turn the dial.

wire back

Postby raimundo » 13 Nov 2005 9:48

bend an L into the end of a stiff wire long enough so that the bend will enter the shackle hole, bend the long end of the wire accross the top of the lock and with the tip in the hole, holding back the locking dog, pull the other end tightly around the shaft of the shackle that is fixed to the lock, this will open up the shackle hole enough for a clear view, dial in the combination so that the gates line up where you can see them, when you have these numbers, its a matter of adding 14 or 15 to the numbers, or it could be subtracting, try both until it works, you can safely close the shackle and try them after you have correctly ascertained the numbers that align the gates where you can see them.

I subtract 11 but some people use 15. I guess this discrepancy could be due to paralax error or the fact that the notches are about 3-4 numbers wide. TIP: before you start turn the dial to 11 (or 15 if you perfer) then where the "0" is make dot on the case with a marker. When you see the notches come into view just glance at the dot you made and that will be the correct number (no math involved)
