making a tubular lockpick(any ideas?)

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

making a tubular lockpick(any ideas?)

Postby karl » 9 Nov 2005 17:15

well ive gotten work experiance with a locksmith this week, and he showed me a tubular pick, and man i was exicited!!!it opens locks in like 2 seconds!(im sure alot of you know this and have them, but this was my first time seeing one!)

anyway, now i really want one,but theyre too expensove for me,so i was looking at it trying to think how i could make a simple one.

so my very basic idea, was: a pipe that fits into a tubular lock, with grooves cut into it with a dremal(for the pick bits),then bent thin pieces of metal as picks, then use rubber bands wrapped arond to hold the picks down and give them a sort of stiffness.

any ideas??

use a bic pencap. if you find one that fits in the lock twist and jiggle it around a bit and it should open right up
I saw a few video using this technique, ill see if i can dig em up

If you could find the video's I would be extremly interested. Could you send me a message or something when you find them or just tell me how this technique works. I am interested in seeing how this would work with out having any picks to press on the pins. Thank you.[/quote]

I'm sure the bic pen thing has been discussed here, and if I will tell you that it won't work on all tubular locks - far from it. The diameter of a bic pen is only right for some kryptonite bike locks and for cheaper variations of laptop/computer locks made by kensington and imitators. I'm pretty sure a pen will not do anything on an Ace II. ~Grit.

Thanks for that bit of info. I am just not familiar with tubular locks and want to learn all i can about them. I ordered a tubular lock online and is expecting it to arrive shortly. I just want to know how to open tem without spending lots of money on a pick just for tubular locks. Since I am only going to have one of them for now to work on.
