Era Euro Profile

I have spent several hours trying to pick Era Euro Profile double cylinder 5 pin lock with security pins.

The security pins are pins 2 & 4, i have tried setting them first (2 then 4 & 4 then 2) and the setting the other pins and I have tried it several other ways round (ie raking then restting pins 2 & 4) but with no sucess, is there something I am missing on these locks as I seem to have no problems on other locks with security pins?

You sure it isnt a 6 pin?

Anyway, your problem is just the wrong order, you dont nessacary have to pick the security pins first or last, you pick the first one that sets first.

If you know where the security pins are then you may get better luck if you overlift them and then set the others and then feather the tension to drop the security pins back down a bit to the proper shear line to allow the plug to turn.

Its just practice im afraid.

Ps i only ask about the pin number as the most common ive seen is the 6 pin version in the euro sizes but obviously you know what your doing and can count so dont take it as having a go.

If something like a 30/30 or 35/35 then it will be a 5 pin. If a little bigger, like a 40/40, then it will be a 6 pin.

The 6 pins can be a tricky pick by hand, but quick with a pick gun.

The 5 pin is usually a fairly simple pick by hand. A quick rake will invariably set all pins including one in anti-pick, which is easily found and lock subsequently opened. I'm far from the greatest hand picker in the world but the ERA 5 pins are fairly easy and should be one of the first to practise on with security pins.

You may just have an awkward one, there's always one...
