Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Old groove lock?

Postby KeithJR » 23 Nov 2005 20:58

I have a bank which I used to store my money in. I stupidly slipped the key in the coin slot (mistook the key for a coin). This inadverntenly threw me into the lockpicking hobby, which I've loved ever since. The point is that the lock looks like none of the locks under the FAQ, but a combonation between two different locks (I think).

Description: The lock itself has two circles within each other, with the key hole acting as a radius. The outer part is seperate from the inside, and has grooves that the key fits into to move the outer and inner circles simatenously. After it's turned clockwise 1/4th of a turn it stops and encounters 3 pins, similarly like a pin and tumbler lock.

The box was a hand me down from my great-grandpa (1850's). This thing is like a fort: solid 1 inch steel and fire-resistant. I have a lot of money in this box which makes it all the more frustrating. Any ideas?

A picture of the box and keyway would probably give you abetter chance of getting the info you're looking for. :)
